Embrace Day 53
Written by Mauro S. Maietta
“Aim small; miss small.”
“Every journey starts with today.”
“Don’t worry about tomorrow; focus on today.”
“Each day is a new day to improve yourself.”
We have all heard the mantras and bumper sticker phrases that aim to start a “new year, new you” mantra with fitness resolutions. If it were that easy, then why do over 90% of New Year’s resolutions fall flat? Why do so many of our “new year, new me” goals fail to see Q2?
In a word, coaching. For most of us, we have a handle on day one. Setting the goal is easy.
“I want to lose 10 lbs.”
“This is the year I run my first marathon.”
“I have always wanted to perform a pull-up. 2023 is my year!”
We can all visualize the goal, be it the number on the scale, the smiles of family and friends at the finish line, or the new view of the gym from the top of the pull-up bar. But what do we do on day 11 – or day 53? Should it take 53 days? Why did my friend complete a pull-up after only four weeks, but I am still at a dead hang?
We are quick to solicit the direction of a doctor when we are sick and need antibiotics. When our TV is broken, we call the local tech to fix the issue. Then, why are we reluctant to do the same for our health and wellness goals?
This year, break the mold and ask the professionals for help and direction. Learn the roadmap and be prepared for roadblocks and hiccups you can encounter along the way. Lebron has a trainer. Mahomes has a trainer. Messi has a trainer. Spieth has a trainer. If the best athletes in the world see the value and understand the importance coaching brings to their fitness goals, then why shouldn’t Drew in accounting or Charlie from marketing need the same guidance?
At Crunch, we do not have a one size fits all approach. We have every program for every individual that enters our clubs. From a four to five sessions per week program with Master Trainers to once-a-month nutrition sessions – and everything in between.
In your first session, share your goal, budget, and schedule and the fitness professional will work with you to map out your goal timeline. This year, embrace day 53. Know you are on track to success and trust the process. Delays will happen. Roadblocks will always be there. TPS reports will continue to interrupt your training schedule, but a coach and a plan can account for these challenges and keep you going when others might quit. See you at the finish line!
