What Is EVOLVE: Active Like?  

EVOLVE: Active consists of four types of work: bone-building strength; low-impact, high-energy cardiovascular drills; balance and range of motion using bodyweight exercise and the support of the wall; and mobility and flexibility work. 

  • HIIT the Weights. Resistance work using bodyweight or light dumbbells. 
  • HIIT the Floor. Low-impact cardio bursts designed to raise the heart rate and boost metabolism. 
  • HIIT the Wall. Balance, strength, and range of motion using the wall for support. 
  • HIIT the Core. Standing core work alternated with flexibility and range-of-motion exercises

Who Are EVOLVE: Active Classes Best For? 

The EVOLVE program is truly for everyone. This class meets you right where you are and challenges you to improve every round. All exercises are low-impact and tailored to your fitness level. Elevation options are available as you will improve your strength, balance, stamina and brain health as you EVOLVE to the best and finest YOU! 

Is EVOLVE: Active a Good Workout? 

EVOLVE: Active is designed with science in mind to provide the following benefits to you: 

  • Brain Growth. Research suggests that HIIT elevates BDNF, a protein that stimulates the growth of new brain cells and strengthens existing ones. This means that older adults who want to reduce the risk of dementia or Alzheimer’s should consider adding one or two HIIT workouts per week to their exercise program. 
  • Cardiovascular Health. Short, athletic drills in EVOLVE: Active allow the heart rate to rise, building heart strength, sending more oxygen to the muscles, boosting VO2 Max, and lowering blood pressure.
     
  • Core Stability and Balance. As we age, we tend to lose core strength and balance, resulting in a disposition towards falls and subsequent injury. EVOLVE: Active focuses on developing core strength and balance so that participants can be more mindful with their movement, reducing their risk.
     
  • Mobility. Gradually increasing range of motion through mobility exercises allows more synovial fluid to be released into the joint, easing pain and increasing mobility.
     
  • Flexibility. Often the most neglected component of fitness, we all need to maintain flexibility to maintain range of motion.
     
  • Strength. A focus on bodyweight strength in EVOLVE: Active allows the maintenance of muscle mass, which declines naturally with age, but also with sedentary lifestyles. Strength training also supports increased bone density, which makes seniors less susceptible to bone breaks from falls.
     
  • Prehabilitation. Developing strength, stability, mobility, and flexibility will help prevent potential injuries and significantly reduce any need for physical therapy in a post-surgical situation. 

How Difficult is EVOLVE: Active 

4/10. Beginners and all fitness levels welcome. Options are available to accommodate everybody as ELEVATION options are offered. Every round challenges you to improve.  All exercises are low impact and may have the support of a wall.  

How Long Is Each Class? 

EVOLVE: Active is 30 minutes. You’ll enjoy a warm-up, 6 minutes of weight training, 6 minutes of low-impact cardiovascular movement, 6 minutes of core, flexibility and mobility and a relaxing cooldown with stretching for a total body experience.

What Should I Wear? 

Come ready to play. Typically, people wear sweat-wicking clothing that offer ample coverage and stay put and allow you to move with ease throughout the range of motion of exercises.  

Cross Training Gym Shoes.  Be sure to wear comfortable shoes that offer support and stability as you move, balance and stretch during class.   

H3- What do I need to Bring? 

Hydrate, my friend! Make sure you have plenty of water with you.  Also, pop a towel in your gym bag for those moments you perspire to greatness. Most importantly, bring a great attitude and smile to share.
